Dong Hoi-Cam Ranh Flights Start 16 August: Visitor Guide
Dong Hoi-Cam Ranh Flights Start 16 August: Visitor Guide
A new nonstop domestic air service will connect Dong Hoi Airport in Quang Tri Province with Cam Ranh International Airport in Khanh Hoa Province from 16 August 2026. Sun PhuQuoc Airways plans to operate the route with Airbus A320 or A321 aircraft carrying about 200 passengers. For visitors, the flight creates a direct link between the Dong Hoi and Phong Nha area and the beaches and resorts around Cam Ranh and Nha Trang.
The published plan provides three round trips each week on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The flight is scheduled to leave Dong Hoi at 12:05 and arrive at Cam Ranh at 13:25. In the other direction, departure from Cam Ranh is planned for 14:05, with arrival in Dong Hoi at 15:30. These are expected local times and may change before or after launch, so travellers should rely on the timetable shown in their confirmed booking.
The route is especially useful for an itinerary combining caves and heritage in north-central Vietnam with a coastal stay in Khanh Hoa. Until now, many air journeys between the two areas required a connection or a longer combination of road and rail travel. The new service will not operate every day, however. Build the trip around one of the three operating days and keep a reasonable buffer before a separate tour, train, cruise or international flight.
A daily Hanoi-Dong Hoi service is also due to begin on 16 August. This may create additional options for travellers arriving through Hanoi and continuing toward Cam Ranh. Do not assume that separate flights form a protected connection. Check whether the airline sells the journey as one booking, whether baggage is checked through, and what happens if the first sector is delayed. Separate tickets may require collecting baggage and checking in again.
Cam Ranh Airport serves the Nha Trang coast, but it is outside central Nha Trang. The airport's current transport guide lists bus number 18 with a reference journey of 50 to 60 minutes and a reference fare of VND 50,000 per person. Taxi and private-car services are also available. Confirm the current pickup point, operating hours and price for the domestic terminal, particularly for an evening arrival or a hotel outside the city centre.
The airline lists a launch promotion offering 20 percent off base fares on the new Dong Hoi-Cam Ranh and Hanoi-Dong Hoi routes from 6 to 24 July 2026. A base-fare reduction is not necessarily the same as a 20 percent reduction in the final payable total. Compare the full price after taxes, fees, baggage and seat options, and read the travel-date and fare-class conditions before paying. Availability can differ by flight.
Check that the ticket shows the correct airports: VDH for Dong Hoi and CXR for Cam Ranh. Review the airline's baggage allowance for the selected fare rather than assuming checked luggage is included. The airline's website states that online check-in should be completed between 24 hours and one hour before departure where available. Passengers should still allow enough time for baggage drop, identification checks and security screening.
Because this is a newly announced route, recheck the operating day and flight status shortly before travel. Save the booking confirmation offline, keep the airline's contact details available and arrange ground transport at both ends. If the flight is tied to a fixed hotel, cave tour or onward connection, choose flexible conditions where practical. The direct service can simplify a two-region holiday, but careful timing remains important with only three weekly round trips.
